MECHANISM OF ACTION
Acetyl Octapeptide-3: an N-terminal biomimetic of the SNAP-25 protein. SNAP-25 is the SNARE complex protein cleaved by botulinum toxin. It competitively inhibits the formation of the SNARE complex at the neuromuscular junction of facial muscles, reducing the fusion of acetylcholine vesicles and the release of neurotransmitters. The result is a reduction in the amplitude of muscle contraction.
