2. Personal Information

Personal data refers to information about the factual or personal circumstances of a specific or identifiable natural person. This does not include the statistical data we collect—for example, when you visit our online store—which cannot be directly linked to you.

Personal data, such as your name, address, phone number, email address, and other inventory data that you provide to us in the course of your online registration, your order, your newsletter subscription, and your inquiry through our contact form, will be processed by us to the extent necessary to process your registration or order, your newsletter subscription, your use of the application, or to respond to your inquiry.

We collect, store, and process your data associated with the online store for the entire duration of the processing of your purchase or request, including any subsequent warranty claims, for the purposes of our services and in accordance with legal retention periods (particularly for tax purposes). We will continue to send you newsletters and electronic advertising until you opt out.

The purposes of data processing in detail:

3. Online Store

3.1. Online registration in our web store

It is possible to make purchases in our web store, as well as use our product watchlist after online registration.

Your online access is password-protected. Here you can view information about your completed, pending, and recently shipped orders, and manage your earned loyalty points, your personal information, and your newsletter subscription.

You agree to treat your personal login information as confidential and not to disclose it to unauthorized third parties. We cannot accept any liability for the misuse of passwords unless we are responsible for it. Please note that you will remain logged in automatically unless you log out.

3.2. Purchase process

By completing your online order, you expressly authorize us to process the personal data you provide to us in order to process your purchase and ship your order. We need your email address to confirm receipt of your order. We also use it to identify you (when logging in to the website). In addition, you will receive order and shipping confirmations via your email address. Similarly, we need your email address and phone number so that we can contact you in case of questions regarding your order or delivery issues.

3.2.1. Customer survey: We need your opinion

When you place an order for SelmiSwiss products, you will receive an invitation to participate in a voluntary customer survey 4 weeks after your purchase; you may opt out of this survey at any time, effective immediately. The data collected is evaluated anonymously and provides us with valuable information that helps us tailor our products even more closely to our customers’ needs and support our scientific team.

4. Newsletter subscription/receipt of electronic advertising

By confirming your subscription to the newsletter, you voluntarily consent to the following company, SelmiSwiss GmbH, processing your data for the purpose of sending you electronic newsletters and receiving direct emails and personalized advertising about SelmiSwiss products, events, and services. “Personalized advertising” refers to advertising tailored to you and your interests. We use existing information, such as your place of residence, your registration date, and the customer group to which you belong, to send you only advertisements for products that may genuinely interest you.

You can only sign up to receive the SelmiSwiss newsletter if you give your express consent. To send you the newsletter, we use the so-called double opt-in procedure; in other words, we will not send it to you by email until you have expressly confirmed that you want us to activate the service. We will then send you a confirmation email and ask you to confirm that you wish to receive our newsletter by clicking on a link included in that email.

Newsletter provider: Mailchimp

We use Mailchimp, a service provided by The Rocket Science Group LLC, 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Suite 5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA (hereinafter “Mailchimp”), to send newsletters. When you subscribe to our newsletter, the information you provide (such as your email address) is transferred to Mailchimp and stored on its servers located in the United States.

Mailchimp acts as a data processor in accordance with Article 28 of the GDPR and is bound by standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, which ensure an adequate level of data protection in the event of transfers to third countries. For more information, please see Mailchimp’s privacy policy: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.

Your information will be used exclusively to send you our newsletters and will not be shared with third parties for commercial purposes. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link included in each email or by contacting us directly.

If you no longer wish to receive our newsletters, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in each email or by contacting us through the information provided in point 1.

5. Inquiries via the contact form

If you send us an inquiry through the contact form, the personal data provided will be processed by SelmiSwiss only.

Since inquiries through contact forms can be of various types, we need you to complete at least the data marked as mandatory.

6. Server Log Data

When you visit our website, your log data is automatically recorded and temporarily stored; however, it does not allow us to draw any conclusions about you personally. This data includes, for example, the browser type and version, the referring URL, the truncated IP address, the provider name, and the operating system used. All log data is evaluated anonymously by us or our service provider solely for statistical purposes, to improve our offerings, to facilitate troubleshooting, and to prevent attacks on our online store.

Website Security – Wordfence
This website uses the Wordfence Security plugin (Defiant Inc., USA) to protect itself against cyberattacks and unauthorized access. Wordfence analyzes traffic and may log IP addresses, login attempts, and suspicious behavior in order to detect and block threats. This data is temporarily stored on the site’s server and is automatically deleted after a reasonable period of time. The processing is based on the controller’s legitimate interest (Art. 6.1 f GDPR) in ensuring the security and integrity of its website. International data transfers are carried out in accordance with the Standard Contractual Clauses (EU 2021/914). For more information, please see Wordfence’s privacy policy: https://www.wordfence.com/privacy-policy/

7. Cookies

We use cookies in some areas to enable certain functions without which the store could not function: shopping cart, wish list, comparison list, secure payment, among others.

Cookies are small files that are stored locally on your hard drive and store certain settings and data to exchange with our system through your browser.

Most of the cookies we use are session cookies and are deleted from your hard drive after you close your browser. The long-term cookies we use remain on your hard drive for 30 days and are then deleted. When you visit us again, we’ll automatically recognize that you’ve been here before and which posts and settings you prefer.

By using our website, you expressly agree to use our web service and accept the use of these cookies to the extent permitted by your browser. Most browsers are set by default to accept all cookies. However, you have the option to configure your browser so that cookies are displayed before they are saved, so that only certain cookies are accepted or rejected, or so that cookies are generally rejected or deleted.

In addition, when you visit our website for the first time, you will see a banner or cookie manager that allows you to accept, reject, or configure the use of cookies on a granular basis before they are activated, in compliance with current regulations. You can change your consent settings at any time through the same cookie management panel accessible at the bottom of the site.

We would like to point out that changes to your settings only affect the browser in which they are made. If you use different browsers or switch devices, you will need to reconfigure your settings. You can also delete cookies from your hard drive at any time. For information on setting, modifying, and deleting cookies, please refer to your web browser’s help function.

For more information about cookies, see the cookie policy.

Note on Third-Party Services Involving Data Processing

With the constant growth of automated access attempts, malicious activities and the abusive use of forms by robots, we have found it necessary to implement additional protection mechanisms to ensure the security of the site and its users.

Google reCAPTCHA

We use Google reCAPTCHA v2 or v3 to protect the site’s forms from abuse and automated activities. This service analyzes visitor behavior (such as mouse movements, IP address, and visit duration) to determine whether the user is a person or a bot. The data is transmitted directly to Google LLC and may be processed on servers outside the EU. For more information, please see Google’s Privacy Policy.

Google Fonts

This site uses web fonts provided by Google to ensure a consistent typographic design. When loading certain pages, your browser may establish a direct connection to Google’s servers to download the fonts, which may involve the transmission of your IP address. You can find more details in the Google Fonts Privacy Policy. In order to further improve our users’ privacy, we are working on a phased transition to hosting all of our fonts locally.

Both services are necessary for the operation and security of the website. If you do not agree to the use of these technologies, we recommend that you do not continue browsing our site.

If you wish to change your decision regarding the use of optional cookies, you can do so by clicking on the following button:

8. Advertising Analysis and Tracking Tools (Google)

This website uses Google Analytics and Google Ads (Conversion Tracking), services provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google”) to analyze website usage and improve our digital marketing campaigns.

Google Analytics uses cookies to analyze user behavior on the site. We use the “anonymizeIP” function, which truncates IP addresses before they are stored or processed to exclude any direct personal references. The full IP address is transferred to Google’s servers in the U.S. only in exceptional cases. The data collected is not combined with other Google data.

Data associated with cookies, user identifiers, or advertising identifiers is retained for a maximum of 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted. You can prevent the use of cookies by adjusting your browser settings or by downloading the add-on available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

We also use the Google Ads conversion tracking service. When you click on a Google ad, a tracking cookie is installed on your device. These cookies do not contain personal data and expire after 30 days. They allow us to compile aggregate statistics on the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns.

The legal basis for the use of these tools is Article 6, paragraph 1, letter f of the GDPR, based on our legitimate interest in analyzing user behavior to optimize our website and advertising campaigns.

You can find more information about Google’s data processing practices in its privacy policies and terms of use:

9. Facebook Pixel / Remarketing / Retargeting

With your consent, this website uses tracking and remarketing technologies from the social network Facebook, operated by Meta Platforms Inc., 1601 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94304, U.S. (“Facebook”). This includes the so-called conversion pixel, which allows us to track users’ actions after they interact with Facebook ads, as well as to display personalized ads based on browsing behavior.

The information we collect is anonymous from our perspective, so we cannot identify individual users. However, Facebook may link this data to your user account and use it for its own purposes, as described in its privacy policy. This may allow Facebook and its partners to show you ads both on and off the platform.

Facebook may store cookies on your device to enable this feature. These cookies may track your behavior on this and other websites in order to deliver interest-based ads (retargeting).

These technologies are only enabled once you have given your explicit consent through the cookie manager when you first visit our site. You can revoke this consent at any time by changing your settings in the cookie manager.

If you’d like to manage your ad preferences on Facebook directly, you can do so at: https://www.facebook.com/ads/website_custom_audiences/.

Only users 16 years of age or older may give consent to use these types of services. If you are a minor, please obtain authorization from your legal guardian.

10. Data Security

At SelmiSwiss, we place great importance on the security of your personal data. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or improper disclosure, in accordance with Article 32 of the GDPR.

All data transmitted through our website is sent via a TLS/SSL-encrypted connection. This ensures that the information cannot be read or tampered with by third parties during transmission.

We apply the principle of data minimization and restrict access to personal information solely to authorized personnel who need it to perform their duties. We regularly review and update our security measures in accordance with the state of the art.

We recommend that you do not share your login credentials with third parties and that you log out when you are finished, especially if you are using a shared device. While we do everything we can to ensure the security of your data, please remember that no Internet transmission is completely risk-free.
